West Ham in 'massive trouble', 2026-27 Championship season threatens to be disastrous after latest news

West Ham United are already in serious danger of getting stuck in the Championship with major changes underway at the London Stadium.

A boardroom exodus is already underway, with Karren Brady having stepped down in April, alongside executive director Nathan Thompson and financial director Andy Mollett.

David Sullivan has become the most recent casualty, stepping down as the joint-chairman in light of serious allegations, which he denies, on top of a ban from contact with the women's and youth teams.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown warned Football Insider that the Hammers could also lose multiple star players following their drop into the Championship.

A major shakeup of the club's chief decision-makers, alongside growing financial concerns and potential first-team departures, could prove disastrous.

This comes amid interest in the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Mateus Fernandes, whose departues would deal a significant blow to the Hammers' promotion bid.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider on 30 May that West Ham are facing growing uncertainty behind the scenes with Daniel Kretinsky also unhappy.

Despite their relegation from the Premier League having been confirmed less than a month ago, issues have continued to grow, and there are now concerns about the impact on the pitch.

Uncertainty behind the scenes and on the pitch have led to some suggestions they could be in trouble next season, rather than looking up.

"West Ham are in massive trouble now with everything going on," Brown told Football Insider.

"The chairman has bailed out with everything going on around him, Karren Brady resigned before they went down, a few of the other decision-makers behind the scenes have gone as well.

"They've created, and now left behind, and absolute mess of a football club and much of the situation they are in now is because of this board.

"But they won't take any accountability for it, they've moved on, they're out of the firing line and now they'll leave their mess for somebody else to come in and clean up.

"I have no doubt there will now be players looking to move on, because why would they stay on the sinking ship when clubs are willing to offer them a way out?

"You'll be looking at the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Mateus Fernandes, these types of players who have been important to any success they've had recently.

"The story is far from over at West Ham, this season could be a disaster for them, especially if these players are going to move on."

Uncertainty at West Ham has quickly spread to the futures of some key players, with speculation the club may be forced to sell with players eyeing moves away.

The Hammers reported losses of over £100million in their most recent accounts, and those financial concerns are expected to worsen after recent events.

In an attempt to balance the books, Brown told Football Insider that West Ham may be forced to sell star players including Bowen and Fernandes for big money.

Nuno Espirito Santo's star players have attracted interest from some of the Premier League and Europe's biggest clubs and may now be considering their futures.

The Hammers are in danger of free-fall as things stand, with problems mounting up, and they have been warned they must get a handle on the situation.
