Why is Guela Doue on Everton's transfer list? Everything you need to know about Strasbourg defender

Everton remain in need of a new right-back this summer, and Guela Doue is a player on their radar.

The Athletic report that Doue remains on Everton's transfer list, having been a target in the January transfer window.

Arsenal defender Ben White has been another name which Everton are showing strong interest in this summer.

Seamus Coleman's departure means that David Moyes needs to add extra depth to the position amid Nathan Patterson's future looking to be away from Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Moyes wants to add depth to multiple areas of the pitch as Everton's season tailed off when they were in a strong position to qualify for European football.

Doue could help Everton achieve that aim, and Football Insider has detailed everything Toffees fans should know about the right-back.

The surname Doue may ring a bell to football fans, and that is because his brother is PSG forward Desire Doue.

Doue has three cousins who are also professional footballers, with Yann Gboho being the most well known at Toulouse.

Despite being born in Angers, Doue represents the Ivory Coast at international level, where he scored on his debut in 2024, and he has been selected in their World Cup squad at this summer's tournament.

He started his career in the academy at Rennes, and came through their youth system alongside the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Georginio Rutter.

After just one season in the senior team at Rennes, Doue moved to Strasbourg in 2024, where he currently plays his football.

The 23-year-old started 23 Ligue 1 matches for Strasbourg in the 2025-26 campaign as they finished eighth in the table, and made the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.

Previously managed by Liam Rosenior, before he left Strasbourg in January to join Chelsea, former Wolves boss Gary O'Neil is now Doue's head coach.

Football Insider revealed that his form at Strasbourg had also earned him interest from Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brighton.

Moyes prioritises defensive stability in his teams, and Everton kept 11 clean sheets in the Premier League this season.

At 6ft 1in, Doue is tall for a full-back, but he can also play in the centre of defence or as a defensive midfielder if required.

Two goals, six assists and 19 chances created in Ligue 1 show that Doue has an instinct to attack down the flanks.

His defensive stats though, most importantly for Moyes, are also very positive.

Doue won 53.2 per cent of his duels, 63.7 per cent of his aerial duels, made 99 recoveries and only picked up three yellow cards throughout the entire season.

An offer over £20million could tempt Strasbourg into a sale, and Everton should be seriously considering that possibility.
