Four Serie A stars are included in the starting line-ups as co-hosts Canada get their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign underway against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday evening.
This may be a painful one for Italy supporters to watch, as this would have been the opening game of the tournament for the Azzurri had they not lost on penalties against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the World Cup play-off final back in March.
There will still be representatives from Serie A involved in Toronto on Friday, as Canada have named Juventus forward Jonathan David in their attack and Sassuolo’s Ismael Kone in their midfield.
Bosnia have named a slightly surprising starting line-up, with no room for Edin Dzeko or teenage talent Kerim Alajbegovic, but two members of their back four are currently playing in the Italian top flight: Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemovic and Atalanta’s Sead Kolasinac.
Canada (4-3-3): Crepeau; Johnston, De Fougerolles, Cornelius, Laryea; Eustaquio, Kone, Millar; J. David, Oluwaseyi, Buchanan.
Subs: St. Clair, Goodman, Jones, Waterman, Bombito, Davies, Sigur, Choiniere, Shaffelburg, Osorio, Saliba, Larin, Ahmed, P. David, Nelson.
Bosnia (4-3-3): Vasilj; Muharemovic, Kolasinac, Dedic, Katic; Tahirovic, Basic, Memic, Demirovic, Bajraktarevic, Lukic.
Subs: Jurkas, Zlomislic, Mujakic, Hadzikadunic, Radeljic, Malic, Gigovic, Sunjic, Hadziahmetovic, Burnic, Mahmic, Bazdar, Dzeko, Alajbegovic, Tabakovic.
