Yeremy Pino: Spain media react to Crystal Palace star’s display vs Saudi Arabia
Crystal Palace starlet Yeremy Pino was unable to impress during Spain’s 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia on Sunday in the 2026 World Cup.
The attacking midfielder was brought off the bench at half-time, with the European Championship holders already 3-0 up and the game essentially over.
However, despite the result being essentially ensured, the 23-year-old was unable to showcase his talents against a poor Saudi Arabia side.
As a result, the Spanish media did not hold back in their review of his performance, as they insisted that he “contributed nothing” from the bench.
Pino had gone into the World Cup on solid form after being a key cog in Palace’s Conference League title.
Nevertheless, this form has clearly not continued into the summer tournament as Spain look to win their second World Cup in 16 years.
The Saudi Arabia game was a chance for Pino to show manager Luis de la Fuente that he can make an impact at this World Cup.
However, against a weak and demoralised Saudi side, the Palace star was largely anonymous.
El Desmarque gave the midfielder the lowest rating of any Spain player at a five, before writing: “Very, very little from the Crystal Palace player. He contributed nothing from the bench, barely passing.”
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Pino will be part of Crystal Palace’s plans for the 2026-27 campaign.
The attacking midfielder had a frustrating start to the 2025-26 season, but was able to show encouraging signs in the final few months, which had helped him get back into the starting XI under Oliver Glasner.
His steady improvements have impressed the Eagles’ coaching staff, and there is a hope that he can really kick on and become a star player.
The recent arrival of Pierre Sage in the Palace dugout could change things for Pino if the manager is not impressed with the Spanish international’s performances.
Therefore, a good World Cup campaign could still be vital for the youngster as he looks to develop into the Premier League’s next upcoming star.
