Aston Villa have earned almost £40million in prize money after being crowned Europa League champions.
Unai Emery’s side secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Bundesliga club Freiburg at the Tupras Stadium in Istanbul on Wednesday (20 May).
Stunning strikes from Youri Tielemans and Emiliano Buendia saw Villa head into half-time with a 2-0 lead, with Morgan Rogers adding a third after the break.
The victory ended the West Midlands giants’ 30-year wait for a trophy as they claimed their first European title in 44 years.
Villa have benefited financially from the Europa League due to the substantial prize money on offer in the second-tier competition.

In terms of how the numbers break down, each team received a guaranteed £3.8m for playing in the Europa League this season.
Meanwhile, Swiss Ramble reported Villa would earn £7.8m from Uefa’s value pillar system, which is split into European and non-European segments based on their coefficient ranking and the market pool.
Clubs were awarded £392,000 for each win in the league phase, meaning Emery’s side banked just over £2.7m after claiming seven victories from their eight fixtures.
Each team competing in the Europa League also earned an additional amount based on their individual ranking in the league phase, with Villa landing just under £2.3m for finishing as runners-up and a further £523k for coming in the top eight.
Qualifying automatically for the last 16 was worth £1.5m, while progressing through to the final added £11.9m to their total.
The victory over Freiburg saw Emery’s side bank an extra £5.2m in prize money and has earned them a place in the Super Cup, where they will face whoever comes out on top in the Champions League final between Arsenal and PSG.
Competing in the Super Cup is worth £3.5m, taking Villa’s earnings to just over £39m, with an additional £870k handed to the side that comes out on top in the one-off game.
It’s been a memorable campaign across the board following Villa’s performances in Europe and domestically.
Alongside claiming the Europa League trophy, they have secured a top-five finish in the Premier League table heading into their final game against Manchester City on Sunday (24 May).
It means Villa will be competing in the Champions League next season, handing them an opportunity to earn significant prize money.

The Villans banked around £70m from competing in the elite European club competition in 2024-25, having reached the quarter-finals before suffering defeat against eventual winners PSG.
That ensured the club’s revenue increased dramatically from £276m in 2023-24 to £378m last season.
