Brandon Petersen's dream making the final squad for the FIFA World Cup came down to one key aspect for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.
Broos announced his final squad for the World Cup and, after including Petersen in his preliminary squad, the Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper was left out of the team.

Ronwen Williams was certainly in the squad, so the decision Broos had to make was who the other two goalkeepers would be. He went with Siwelele FC's Ricardo Goss and Sipho Chaine of Orlando Pirates, as the latter made a return to the team after he was surprisingly left out in the last two international friendlies against Panama.
Broos explained that he knows Petersen as a goalkeeper, but not as a human being, which was important in making his final decision.
"First of all, we tried to have a certain balance in the selection, not too much of this and not too much of that. Do we have height in the selection? Do we have players who are in that moment in good shape, and do we have players who are not with us for the first time?
"That's also the reason why Petersen is not with us. Petersen was only with us for two days, so I know Petersen as a goalkeeper...I have to choose two goalkeepers. When you look at the quality of those guys, you can't choose because they are the same quality.
"For me, it was the integration. We had only one good training, which was on Tuesday, and that was it. And I don't know Brandon as a human being, so in those two days you can't know how he will react when he doesn't play, or his reaction to whatever. And that made me choose not to take Brandon. It's not a question of quality. It's just the integration. So, this is important.

Petersen was a standout performer for Amakhosi this season and had the hope of making the final squad going to the World Cup.
In the 24 appearances Petersen made in the Betway Premiership, he kept 15 clean sheets. It wasn't enough to get him into the team, which will be leaving for Mexico on Sunday.
