'We are here to win the Unity Cup' - Super Eagles midfielder Nnadi sends message to Jamaica

Tochukwu Nnadi has expressed delight after helping Nigeria secure a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup semi-final, while also shifting focus to the upcoming final against Jamaica.

The Marseille midfielder made his first start for the Super Eagles during the encounter at The Valley in London, delivering an assured display as Eric Chelle's side booked their place in the final of the four-nation tournament.

Nigeria sealed the win thanks to a brilliant brace from debutant Femi Azeez, who scored in both halves to send the defending champions into another Unity Cup final.

Nnadi, who featured prominently in midfield, admitted he was pleased with the team's overall display, even though he remained modest about his own performance.

"It was a great game. I don't know if I had a fantastic performance, but I think the team did quite good. We won 2-0, so we are happy and we're waiting for the next game," Nnadi said to the Super Eagles' media team.

The 22-year-old also highlighted how quickly the newly assembled squad managed to build chemistry despite limited preparation time ahead of the tournament.

"I think we had three training sessions. It's difficult, but we try to understand each other as quick as we can because I think in high-level football it doesn't matter where the guys are coming from, but we all just have to be a team and work together," he explained.

"So the first training was hard but I think second day, third day, we got to understand each other and you can see in the game yesterday we had a great connection and it ended well."

Nigeria will now face Jamaica in the Unity Cup final after the Reggae Boyz defeated India 2-0 in the second semi-final.

The Super Eagles are aiming to retain the trophy and Nnadi made it clear that the squad's ambition is to win every competition they enter.

"We are here to win the Unity Cup. I wouldn't say nothing about the Poland and Portugal game. First we get the job done here and then we'll see what happen in Poland and in Portugal," he added.

"But I think this time we have to win everything. So when the time comes we will fight. Last AFCON we had a great competition but in the end we didn't win, so this time we have to fight and see if we can win the AFCON and hopefully win more trophies for the Nigerian national team."

The Unity Cup final between Nigeria and Jamaica will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at The Valley in London.
