League One sides Wigan Athletic, Notts County and Cambridge United are all eyeing up moves for Accrington Stanley defender Devon Matthews, sources have told Football Insider.
The centre-back also has interest from elsewhere in League Two in the form of Chesterfield, after a season that saw him make 40 league appearances.
Accrington are bracing themselves to receive strong interest in Matthews this summer, after he was one of their most important players in 2025-26.
Several sides are already queuing up to offer him the chance to make the jump to League One, including the newly-promoted duo of Notts County and Cambridge.
The 26-year-old has spent the last two campaigns at the Wham Stadium, but could be on the move for a new challenge this summer.
A product of Oldham Athletic's academy, Matthews has enjoyed a rise through the non-league pyramid to earn his chance in the EFL in recent years.
Matthews has begun to make a name for himself with Accrington, who paid an undisclosed fee to sign him from Curzon Ashton back in January 2025.
Stanley have gained a strong reputation for developing talent in recent years, with the likes of Portsmouth's Colby Bishop and Wrexham's Josh Windass earning big moves after impressing in their colours.
Matthews could be the next man to step up from the Lancashire club into League One, a level where he has never played before in his career.
His time in non-league also took in stints with the likes of Glossop North End and Mossley, but he has now established himself as an EFL player.
Gary Caldwell's Wigan have their eyes on him as they look to build on their 16th-placed finish from last term, while he is also a target for Notts County and Cambridge.
Accrington are expecting to field significant interest in Matthews this summer, and the vultures have already begun to circle around their star.
Football Insider revealed last week that Wigan also want to sign Sunderland centre-back Zak Johnson this summer as they aim to strengthen their backline.
Oxford United and York City are also keen on a permanent move for the 21-year-old, who starred for the latter in a loan spell in 2025-26.
The starlet is expected to be sold by his parent club this summer, despite recently being named within their retained list.
It remains to be seen whether Wigan will try to move for both Johnson and Matthews, but they are two clear options on their radar at the moment.
